The fields of science and engineering have all but abandoned the chase for perpetual motion. But the search continues in the realms of our expectations, relationships, and commitments.
We uphold the core beliefs of perpetual motion in our unwillingness to reevaluate our processes, our over-reliance on the status quo, and our blind acceptance of tradition.
In refusing to add more energy to the system we show that once we create a machine that works we expect it to run without our involvement.
But our relationships, beliefs, and projects aren’t upheld by perpetual motion. Every now and again we’ll have to reinvest our energy into the system if we want to keep things running.
